Why do I want to build a canoe?

My name is Will Vildibill and I have decided to take on the challenge of building a cedar strip canoe.  The picture above is someone else's canoe and I hope that mine will turn out as nice.  If my hands can produce what I have envisioned in my head this project will result in an awesome and beautiful canoe.

 

Why build a canoe when you buy?  Well, I have narrowed my answer down to 3 main reasons:

                1)  I am stubborn and think that I can do it myself

                2)  Most canoes today are just ugly plastic or aluminum

                3)  Why not?  How cool is it to say that you built a canoe?

 

I am hoping that I can complete this adventure by the end of March 2015.  I will be posting as often as possible with pictures and notes on my progress.
